‘Beat it’ is a photographic project, which aims to raise awareness of men’s cancers, encouraging men to discuss personal urological issues more openly. My goal is to photograph 20 celebrity drummers, and to hold a major exhibition of images at a venue TBC. Along with this, I am aiming to auction off various pieces of drum memorabilia, print, and anything else i can get my hands on.
I will be raising funds for the Christie Charity, specifically to fund a doctors post in Urology at the hospital, over a three year period. This will include in- post training in new brachytherapy techniques, and focuses on prostate, testicular and bladder cancers.
In 2003 my husband was treated twice for testicular cancer at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, where he underwent sessions of radiotherapy followed by surgery. He is now in remission, and we will be forever grateful to the staff at The Christie for their professional and empathetic approach to the treatment.
We are so lucky to have the Christie on our doorstep in Manchester. As an employee at the Christie, i get to witness the amazing work done by all the staff, including the surgeons and nursing staff who work incredibly hard.
Beat it is my way of giving something back to the hospital that helped us at a difficult time.
